Service Providers:
Luciano Beltran (Goyette and Associates):
Medical Trust Retirement Health Insurance- We recently negotiated a tax free "in and out" medical trust for retiree health benefits. This is a good option for bargaining units and can be administered by your own Board of Trustees. Please contact me for any information.
Association Reports:
Sacramento POA:
Jerry Camous - Long Beach POA just had a retention reopener that included a 5% increase for 10 years of service and a 10% increase for 20 years of service. This is something that should be used as food for thought.
Additionally, I was able to sit in on the governor's debate. Arnold stated that he still believes that pensions need to be changed, but that he was too hasty in trying to pass his agenda. Basically, this means he will try to come after us again should he become governor. We are not safe so long as he is sitting.
San Joaquin County DSA:
Rex Yturri - We have created a coalition with the other county employee associations. We have held out and a meeting is coming up shortly to discuss medical benefits.
Tuolumne County DSA:
Ken Diaz - The DSA just settled reached a settlement with the county in which deputies will receive a 35% increase over the next 18 months. Members are happy with the raise. Thanks to the Valley Chapter for assisting us in getting a new Sheriff and supporting us.
Oakdale POA:
Tim Redd - We just signed a one year contract that was not good. We were able to get an agreement to conduct a salary survey for our next contract. Those agencies in the survey have yet to be negotiated.
San Joaquin Delta College POA:
Letter from Robert DiPiero - Requesting assistance from the Valley Chapter, so he can attend the PORAC Conference in November.
Motion - Dave Reeder to provide up to $750.00 in assistance toward San Joaquin Delta POA
Second - Rex Yturri
Discussion - Greg Simpson said he was in favor of providing gas and hotel, but was against providing money to eat.
Motion Carries Unanimously
Stockton Unified School District POA:
Robert Matthews - We are in the middle of negotiations and making headway on medical benefits. We are also trying to work for 3%@55, however, this does not look promising. We are currently operating under an interim Chief. We have been approved for three canine positions, however, until the new Chief is sitting it appears this will be placed on hold. It is a great department that is just getting better. We just need to work on some issues to make the department more appealing to retire from, than to use as a stepping stone for another agency.
Good of the Association:
None
Next Valley Chapter Meeting:
Will take place at the Disneyland Hotel as part of the PORAC Conference. We hope to see you all there.
Meeting Adjourned:
