V. Approval of Minutes

 

1.  Minutes for September were reviewed.  Motion by Joe Schmidt to accept.  Second by Randy Beintema.  Motion carried.

 

VI. Treasurer's Report

 

1. Treasurer Paul Brown provided the report for September 30, 2004.

 

Checking account balance: $ 16,435.44

PAC account balance: $ 48,449.46

 

Motion by Jim Bock to accept report. Second by Joe Schmidt.  Motion carried.

 

VII. Old Business

 

1. Discussion of Annual Conference. Smaller associations within Valley Chapter have been encouraged to request sponsorship from the Chapter to attend conference. Motion for conference sponsorship for San Joaquin Delta College POA for $750 by Dan Schnepple. Second by Paul Brown. Motion carried.

 

2. Discussion regarding Lodi City Council pending endorsement. Last meeting Lodi POA sought endorsement on candidate Dixon Flynn. This action could not be considered without Lodi PMA position. Lodi PMA had no position. Prior action to endorse Dixon Flynn went into effect. PAC motion to contribute $1,000 to Dixon Flynn by Dave Griffin. Second by John Taylor. Motion carried.

 

VIII. New Business

 

1. Placer County. Motion made to endorse Alice Dowdin for Placer County 3rd Supervisor by John Taylor. Second by Dave Griffin. Motion carried. Another motion made to contribute $1,500 to candidate by John Taylor. Second by Paul Brown. Motion carried.

 

2. Santa Barbara County. Souza reported that SB Grand Jury looking into a salary / wage review in order to identify possible savings for the county. They are also looking at retirement funding option of changing from defined benefit to a defined contribution plan. The Grand Jury has authority to look at any governmental operation. However, a Grand Jury action does not override items subject to negotiation under MMBA.

 

3. Tracy POA. Motion made to endorse Dan Billbrae and Brent Ives for Tracy City Council by Dan Schnepple. Second by Randy Beintema. Motion carried. Another motion made to contribute $500 to each candidate by Dan Schnepple. Second by Paul Brown. Motion carried.

 

 

IX. REPORTS

 

A. OGA - Beintema reported that the PORAC Executive BOD addressed various issues on PAC and Workers Compensation. There has been difficulty in dealing with Governor Schwarzeneggar on these topics. Beintema also talked about future trends in public safety retirement formulas and actuarials. Associations should stay vigilant on any changes in these areas.

 

B. Conference – Beintema reported that the block of hotel rooms are overfilled. If attending, call immediately to get reservations. Several issues will come up at conference like proposed bylaw amendments which will get discussed in our region and chapter meetings.

 

C. LDF – Schlenker not present. No report.

 

D. I & B – French not present. No report.

 

E. Service Providers. No reports.

 

F. Associations. No reports.

 

G. Good of the Association.

Chapter Meeting will be held in Monterey at the Annual Conference.
