Meeting Minutes of November 16, 2001, in Reno at PORAC Conference
Region II meeting conducted first then Valley Chapter Meeting conducted

Region II meeting called to order at 1635 hours by Randy Beintema
New Business:
1. 1st by-law amendment to limit the number of people holding ranks above line officer on the
PORAC board. Motion made by Beintema for Region II to oppose amendment. Second by
Dave Topaz of Sacramento POA. Motion carried.
2. 2nd amendment to by-laws. Motion by Mike Cavelero of Fresno POA for Region II to
oppose amendment. Second by Sam Malcom of Stockton POA. Motion carried.
3. Paul Heckman appeared before the meeting and requested support for his candidacy for VP
of PORAC.
4. 3rd amendment to by-laws (LDF), pulled by author.
5. 4th amendment to by-laws, Motion by Bill Harbottle for Region II to support amendment.
Second by Mike Caverllero. Motion carried.
6. 5th amendment to by-laws (PORAC News). Motion by Schlenker for Region II to support.
Second by Dave Topaz. Motion carried.
7. 6th amendment to by-laws (Article XIV language). Motion by Schlenker for Region II to
support. Second by Dave Souza. Motion carried.
8. Jim Davis appeared before the meeting to request support for his candidacy for Vice
President.
9. Mike Ervin appeared before the meeting to request support for his re-election to Vice
President.
10. Randy Beintema made a motion for Region II to support Mike Ervin for Vice President.
2nd by Adam Christianson. Motion not carried. Individual Chapters within Region II to take
up issue.
11. Beintema reported that the PORAC board wanted to withdraw from NAPO. Many
problems with NAPO were discussed. Motion made by Schlenker for Region II to take a
position in support of PORAC pulling out of NAPO. Second by John Crier of Washoe
County. Motion carried.
Region II meeting concluded. Chapters to meet next.
Valley Chapter Meeting

1. Motion to accept minutes of October meeting by Cantrell, 2nd by Papadopoulos, Motion carried.

VII. Old Business
1. Motion by Mark Smith from October meeting to endorse Alan Cassidy for Superior Court
Judge in Stanislaus County. 30 day wait done motion brought back to the floor. Oakdale
POA was opposed to this motion but all other associations in Stanislaus County had approved.
Motion carried.
2. Motion by Mark Smith from October meeting to endorse James Brazelton for Stanislaus
County District Attorney. 30 day wait done motion brought back to the floor. No opposition
to motion, motion carried.
3. Motion by Bob Johnson from October meeting to endorse Larry Henning for Sheriff of El
Dorado County. 30 day wait done motion brought back to the floor. No opposition to motion,
motion carried.
4. Motion by Manny Cardoza from October meeting to endorse Eric Schlueter for El Dorado
County District Attorney. 30 day wait done motion brought back to the floor. No opposition,
motion carried.
5. Motion made by unk to endorse John Philips for San Joaquin County DA. Seconded by
unk, motion carried.
Old business was closed and the new business was taken up. These two issues were re-opened after new business:
6. Randy Beintema opened the floor for any more nominations for Chapter Vice President. Ilsa Van Leden had expressed an interest at October meeting. Malcom made a motion to nominate Dave Souza for Vice President. No further nominations so the nominations were closed. A voice vote was taken and Dave Souza was elected to fill the remaining vice president's term.
(It should be noted that this election may have been conducted in error as it was decided at the October meeting to conduct the VP election at the January 2002 meeting. This will be re-visited at the January meeting. Anybody with an interest in this issue should attend the January meeting)
7. Beintema opened nominations for Chapter Treasurer as Andy Schlenker announced he would no longer be able to serve. Paul Brown was the only nomination. Voice vote taken and Paul Brown was approved.
VIII. New Business 1. Bob Johnson made a motion to donate $1000 to Larry Henning's campaign. 2nd by Mark
Smith. Motion carried.
2. Mark Smith made a motion to donate $500 to James Brazelton's campaign. 2nd by George
Papadopoulos. Motion carried.
3. Mark Smith made a motion to donate $500 to Alan Cassidy's campaign. 2nd by Andy
Schlenker. Motion carried.
4. John Jacobs made a motion to donate $1000 to Eric Schueter's campaign. 2nd by Bob
Johnson. Motion carried.
5. Motion made by Malcom for Valley Chapter to endorse and cast all of our votes for Mike
Ervin in the PORAC Vice President Election. Motion carried unanimously among all
associations present.
