Old Business:
New Business:
President Steve Walker (San Joaquin County DSA):
Deputy Herrick, Placer County DSA - A fellow Valley Chapter member from Placer County DSA lost everything in a tragic fire that destroyed his home. Deputy Herrick was at work and his wife and five children were not in the house at the time of the fire. Being that he is a Valley Chapter member, I would like to entertain a motion to provide assistance. Additionally, the Valley Chapter web page has posted this, as well as the address and contact information on how to send donations.
- Motion - Randy Beintema (San Joaquin County DSA) to PROVIDE $500.00 to Deputy Herrick
Second - Jerry Camous (Sacramento POA)

Service Providers:
Nick Amper (AFLAC for PORAC):
Service Center - AFLAC has opened up the AFLAC for PORAC service center, which is designed to handle on PORAC related claims. Claims will be settled in 72 hours and paid within 10 day. Get your associations signed up, so your members can take advantage of this great service.
Emily Becze (Myers, Stevens & Toohey):
Invitation - Announced she is the new Sales Representative in the Roseville office and invited Valley Chapter members to stop in and visit.
PAC/OGA:
Director Randy Beintema (San Joaquin County DSA):
Elections - Elections are coming in November again. If you have any candidates that your association would like to endorse, get them to the Chapter.
PORAC Conference - Is quickly approaching and will take place in November in Monterey. Region II will be hosting this year.
Association Reports:
Travis Rowe (San Joaquin County Probation POA):
Orange County - Rumors are circulating that Supervisor Morlach has fallen out of political favor with the Board. Additionally, it has been rumored that the Supervisors have a better retirement plan than the Deputies have.
Ilsa von Leden (Yolo County DSA):
Mariko Yamada - Won her bid for the Democratic nomination for the 8th District of the State Assembly. She will now run against the Republican candidate, Manuel Cosme in the November elections. Mariko appreciated the opportunity to speak with the Valley Chapter at last months meeting.
Negotiations - Negotiations have started and look promising.
Mark Tyndale (Sacramento POA):
Welcome - Sacramento POA is happy to host this meeting in our new POA building.
Mayoral Race - Kevin Johnson received the majority of votes over Heather Fargo, however, he did not receive the necessary amount of votes to claim the Mayor's seat. The two will meet up in a run-off election in November to decide who the next Mayor of Sacramento will be.
Gary Vernon (Stanislaus County DSA):
Supervisor Elections - Les Weidman, who we supported in the Supervisor's race lost his seat to Vito Cheisa. Vito paid $4,000 for a COPS endorsement that claimed he was supported by rank and file police officers. In a photo, he is standing next to former law enforcement administrators, not current rank and file members. We are now working on fostering a positive relationship with him.
William Cho (Grant Unified Schools POA):
Department Situation - The District has agreed to drop looking into contracting police services at least for the duration of our current contract, so we are positive of this outcome and the longevity of our police department.
New Department Name - With the merging of several school district, our police department and POA will officially be renamed beginning July 1, 2008. Our new association name will be the Twin Rivers Unified School District POA.
Budget Woes - The budget cuts are starting to affect our police department. We will be starting out the new fiscal year with a 3.9% deficit.
Closing Comments:
President Steve Walker (San Joaquin County DSA):
Next Meeting - The next meeting of the Chapter will take place on August 14 and will be hosted by the Oakdale POA. The location is TBA. Check the Chapter web site for updates and directions.
Thank You - Thank you to Sacramento POA for hosting this month's meeting and allowing time in your new POA building.
Chapter Elections - At the September meeting, nominations will be taken for President, Secretary and State Director. Elections will be held at the October meeting, with the new officers taking their positions at the PORAC Conference in November. If you are interested in running for a seat on the Chapter Board of Directors, or would like to see someone sit on the Board, please start thinking about it now.
Meeting Adjourned:
President Steve Walker asked for a motion from the floor to adjourn the meeting at 1952 hours.
