Valley Chapter Meeting Minutes

I.          Meeting called to order at 1910 hours by President Dave Souza.

II.        Pledge of Allegiance led by Paul Brown.

III.       Moment of silence.

IV.       Introductions.

V.        New Business.

1.      Resignation of Valley Chapter Secretary Mark Smith.

            Dave Souza read Mark Smith’s resignation letter.

 

VI.       Nominations for Valley Chapter Secretary.

Andy Schlenker nominated Dan Schnepple for the position. Second by Paul Brown. Dave Souza called for additional nominations, having none, motion carried.

           

VII.     Approval of November minutes.

1.      Minutes were reviewed.  Motion to accept by Randy Beintema.  Second by Joe Schmidt.  Motion carried.

                 

VIII.    Treasurer’s Report.

      Treasurer Paul Brown provided report.

Checking account balance:                       $17,590.58

PAC account balance:                               $46,438.23

 

IX.       Old Business.

1.      Small Association Scholarships.

A.    Payments made to Delta College P.O.A., Lodi P.O.A., and Modesto P.M.A.

 

X.        New Business.

1.      Web site management.

With the resignation of Mark Smith concerns regarding who would manage the site were discussed.  After discussion Andy Schlenker suggested Mark Smith continue maintaining the site, as he had agreed to do so. 

 

2.      Line of Duty Death/Injury.

A.    Discussion regarding the shooting death of Sgt. Howard Stevenson and shooting of Ofc. Sam Ryno, both of the Ceres Police Dept.  Motion to donate $500.00 to both made by Andy Schlenker. Second by Randy Beintema.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

B.     Discussion regarding the accidental shooting of Stanislaus Co. Deputy Eric Neuman.  Motion to donate $500.00 to fund in his name made by Randy Beintema. Second by Jim Boch.  Motion carried.

 

3.      Recognition for Mark Smith.

Motion made by Andy Schlenker to provide a plaque for Mark Smith for service to Valley Chapter, not to exceed $100.00.  Second by Randy Beintema.  Motion carried

 

XI.       P.A.C. & OGA Business

 

1.      Brian Winsor and Lynn Hutchinson of Galt P.O.A. request election donations for Barbara Payne and Tim Raboy, both Galt City Council.  Given no other members were affected by the request, Lynn Hutchinson motioned for a $500.00 donation for Barbara Payne and Tim Raboy.  Second by Andy Schlenker. Motion carried.

 

2.      After discussion regarding Prop. 226(PAC Control) and ACA 5 (Pension Protection Act) Randy Beintema motioned to transfer PAC monies to PIC account from 01-05 through 08-05 to assist in fighting ACA 5. Second made by Paul Brown.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Randy Beintema began discussion regarding the death of (D) Congressman Robert Matsui of the 5th Congressional District.  Randy recommended Valley Chapter give consideration to this special election of Doris Matsui. Sac P.O.A.  has P.A.C. interviews scheduled.  Topic was tabled pending Sac P.O.A. position.

 

4.      Randy Beintema provided information regarding a letter sent by Shane Talbot, I&B. Shane is requesting review for conflict of interest with respect to the employment of Dave French by Mastagni, Holstedt & Amick, and his seat on the I.& B. Trust. Bob Bonsall will review.

 

5.      Ron Cottingham and Randy Beintema provided explanation regarding various budget proposals by Gov. Schwarzenegger, as well as explaining Defined Benefits and Defined Contribution retirement systems.
