Ron Cottingham (ACA 23):
Richman has made a strong push for ACA23 and he will get the amendment a hearing, however, it will not make it out of the hearing. PORAC is maintaining a partnership with the Alliance for a Better California on the pension initiatives.
Dave French (GASB 43&45):
Advised to do research into GASB 45 before giving up retirement and medical. Said to get in touch with PORAC if GASB 43 or 45 is discussed in negotiations. If further information is needed contact Dave French, or Ron Cottingham.
Service Providers:
California Casualty
Sophie Imbuelten spoke of the recent ranking that placed California Casualty as the #1 ranked insurance provider.
Mastagni
Chris Miller - Mastagni has filed a brief to the Supreme Court regarding civil rights violations in regards to suspects who are found guilty of PC148.
Chris Miller - Provided clarification on an FLSA issue that was decided by the Supreme Court, in which it provides for compensation for time spent donning and doffing protective gear. A loose reading opinion by Miller suggests that it would refer to specialty equipment, such as haz mat gear.
I.A Training - PORAC will be hosting its first ever Internal Affairs training at PORAC headquarters in Sacramento February 15-16. It is highly recommended that all attend.
Goyette
Lucian Beltran - Commended Jim Bock for his work on the Valley Chapter web site. Highlghted problems that an association in the Central Valley Chapter is facing and recommended going to the PERS web site to watch an instructional video regarding retirement.
Association Reports:
Sacramento POA:
Jerry Camous indicated that the association is in the midst of contract enforcement and clarifications.
Good of the Association:
Ron Cottingham
Advised that an amendment to Jessica's Law is in the works and is being supported by the Governor. For several reasons, PORAC is steering clear of this legislation.
